THE HOME BREW, MADE ENTIRELY BY THE BRAND, EQUATES A DIFFICULTY SURELY HIGHER THAN THE OUTSOURCE ABOVE.

COMPANY/BRAND CUSTOM BUILT MOVEMENTS MEAN. PARTS MAY BE DIFFICULT OR EASY TO DISCOVER DEPENDING/BASED ON ORIGINAL PRODUCTION.

WHILE PARTS UTILIZED FROM AN OUT SOURCE EBAUCHE OR FULLY BRANDED -A EXACT SIMILAR MOVEMENT  BRANDED WITH NAME OF COMPANY USING I NUMBERS AND/OR SALES VOLUME–   ARE EASIER TO DISCOVER.

PARTS THAT CAN WEAR – BREAK

A DAMAGED BALANCE MORE THAN LIKELY REQUIRES CUTTING/MACHINING.

CAREFULLY REMOVING AND REPLACING AND THEN PROTECTION FROM MOISTURE AND THESE EXTREMELY DELICATE TO BENDING YET ABSOLUTELY TOUGH SPRINGS CAN LAST 140 YEARS  AND STILL WORK.

OTHER THAN DAMAGE AND/OR WEAR FROM CRACKED, CHIPPED, BROKEN OVALED JEWELS OR DRILLS, THE WHEEL STAFF/PINION, THE UPPER/LOWER MACHINED ENDS OF STAFFS WHICH GO THROUGH WHEEL CENTER AND THEN INTO THEIR JEWELS OR DRILLS (NO JEWELS) WILL WEAR AND/OR BREAK IF NOT LUBRICATED -. EXTREMELY LIGHT LUBRICATION, PREFERABLY WITH SYNTHETIC OILS IS A MUST.

EXTREME SHOCK CAN DAMAGE A PIVOT END. YET. THE DRIVE TRAIN WHEELS ARE SOMEWHAT PROTECTED FROM SHOCK BY THEIR CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER

THE MAIN KILLER IS THE WEAR ON THE PIVOTS, THE WEAR ON THE DRILLS [MY VERBIAGE FOR SIMPLE HOLES DRILLED IN PLATES TO ACCOMMODATE THE WHEEL PIVOTS] OR WEAR FROM LACK OF SERVICING AND LUBRICATION.

THEN THE VERY LAST. ON WATCHES WITH LIMITED JEWELS, THE WHEELS IN THE TRAIN OPERATE AGAINST THE DRILLED PLATE AND BRIDGE HOLES.
